Autumn is approaching and what better time to put on your walking boots and enjoy nature’s array of fabulous colours? Adjacent to Heywood hall is the disused railway line which takes you all the way to Dimmingsdale . Here the Forestry commission has turned an aristocrats dream into a delight for everyone. Beautiful drives created by the Earl of Shrewsbury are part of the valley walk. You can walk where fine carriages once carried gentry on pleasure trips. The rolling hills and dramatic sandstone outcrops make this walk a delight, especially in Autumn.
Stop at the Ramblers Retreat for a snack or homemade cake as a reward for your efforts before you walk back and enjoy a wonderful hot tub and sauna at Heywood Hall.
