After the last few days of storms, wind and rain, it certainly feels like Autumn has arrived. The leaves are falling, and the gardens are starting to lose their summer colour. Don’t let the clouds and drizzle get you down. There is still so much you can enjoy outside, particularly in Staffordshire where you can walk in some beautiful countryside.
There are some great walks nearby only a few minutes drive from Heywood Hall. One is in the Churnet Valley from Kingsley Holt to Cheddleton, following the Caldon Canal, about 5 miles. You can even return on the Churnet Valley Steam railway to Kingsley when they are running. There is a pub on the way, the Black Lion for drinks and meals.

Another breathtaking ramble is along the Roaches, a jagged escarpment of Gritstone and is a dominant feature of the North Staffordshire landscape offering views across North Staffordshire, Derbyshire, and the Cheshire plain. Parking is available on the roadside and the walk is circular which is relatively easy to follow.
